Okay so this is the solution, but what was the problem ? Well if you are building a major new bridge across the River Mersey, and you have lots of workmen working close to or over the river, how do you provide a safe and reliable rescue system ?
The river is tidal so sometimes you will have many feet of cold and very fast flowing water, at other times vast expanses of mud flats and sand banks.
What would allow you to traverse the variety of surfaces in a quick and efficient manner to help save the lives of anyone who falls into the river or mud.
This is one solution, in the water this looks just like a normal inshore life boat, but then it looks really strange as it drives itself ashore, and trundles across the sands. It appears to have another engine, inboard behind the driver.
The brown metal box you can see in the distance is a cofferdam on the Runcorn side, this is providing a temporary enclosure to enable them to build one of the legs of the new suspension bridge.
@seanoneill Hi Sean, yes they started the tail end of last year, they are very busy causing massive disruption with all the approach road works, WHY they have to work on BOTH main roads through Runcorn at the same time I have no idea. Supposed to be open mid 2017, then closing the old bridge for 6 months, council speak for 12 months.
