COME BYE

I was randomly wandering down a quiet country lane, wondering what I might find that would make an interesting photograph. When a farmer drove up, stopped next to me, got out and opened a gate into a field containing some sheep. He went in with a trailer, shut the gate, and got two sheepdogs out. Just like on One Man and his Dog, with a few whistles and calls, the two collies soon had the sheep rounded up, herded into a small pen, and from there onto the trailer.
As he walked past me, I shouted "you made that look easy". He stopped and had a few words. He reckoned it wasn't always that straightforward. Particularly with these. Turns out these were male sheep, Rams or also called Tups. They are kept for breeding with the sheep.

Unlike sheep, which run from the dogs, Tups, will stop and form a tight pack, and all face outwards towards the dogs with their horns. It makes it harder for the dogs to turn the Tups in the direction they are wanted to go in.
