Good effect. I would have removed some of those strokes that look too much like hair or lightened them. Like the idea though.

Very nice idea, Maddy: I see that we're both members of the Escher fan club, but I'll let you tackle "Ascending and Descending". I must say, though, that I was bothered by the hairy hand effect on my Escheresque image, but I'm even more worried by the hair in this one!!

@jlmather Thanks John! I did two versions, and went with this one. I think in retrospect I should have combined both images and that would have got rid of the hair effect. Failing that, maybe I should have actually drawn it!!

@pamalama Thank you Pam! The truth is Escher's drawings were very linear not this sort of sketching (cross hatching). It was just playing with an idea that John started!
