@janmaki
How can you tell it was monstrously zoomed? I tend to be a bit impulsive. I saw the shot while I was looking out a window in my house, so I took it from that window. I took a photo a few weeks ago of just a single one of these, while I was actually outside close to it and I think this one turned out better. You don't like?
I like it but I see what @janmaki is talking about, I think. The "graininess" of it kinda says it's been monstrously zoomed ; ) I do like it though.. Don't think i've done this one. Ours are LONG gone now! LOL!
@bfmassey
Thanks for the feedback. I don't know what to do anymore, my shots are either blurry or grainy. There is no middle ground. lol.
What time of year do you all get these in Alabama?
@mej2011 , You just keep at it! That's what you do! LOL! I have found that when I zoom in I get the grainy look so I try to get as close as I can to avoid that. As far as focus goes, that will sometimes happen if you yourself are a bit shakey.. I have had to delete many for that reason too! Also, do you use the auto focus or do it manually? I use auto most all the time except on certain settings... Alabama, well the calendar says that we are still in Spring BUT the temps say that it is full blown Summer! LOL! Today it was 100 with a heat index of way over that! Smokin' hot I tell ya! LOL!
@bfmassey
I use auto focus. I am using a "fancy" point and shoot and I don't believe it has a manual focus, but if I'm being honest I have not read the manual yet. I should probably do that.
Hmm, upon first glance I assumed the graininess was due to your processing (thought it might have been 1960's effect with maybe some other stuff thrown in) and I LIKED it. Now, I know that the effect is the result of monstrous zooming and I still like it. Which is why I faved it. I care not about the zooming. It's purty.
@pwallis
You're starting to spoil me with this "faving" thing, and I like it! HA! Thank you so much!
Obviously, I did use the 1960's effect, but that is all aside from picnik's auto fix. I tried HDR and it looked horrible, oh well. You live and learn.
I looked at your exif info and 264mm is monstrous zooming. In a p&s the lens is not capable for such zooming optically. So this is digital zoom which creates certain distortion in the image. To get rid of it, stick with optical zoom area. You can crop the image yourself later and the quality should be better.
Still, I think this digital zoom can be used as an effect. Remember the TV idea?
@janmaki
If the camera is not capable of such zooming, then the camera shouldn't be able to zoom that far. Why give the option of zooming far, if the quality is going to be bad? Okay, I'm done venting. Ha! Thanks!
