Autophobia is 1) The fear of being alone 2) The fear of being egotistical 3) In it's most severe form, the fear of oneself. I tried to portray the third definition in this shot.
Originally my thought for this shot was to do a selfie in a large mirror and then edit to look as if the mirror was shattered. Yeah, I have no idea how to do that. I then decided I would just use the mirror from my make up. Apparently I'm not strong enough to break a mirror, so I had some assistance there. Unfortunately I didn't get as much of the reflection as I wanted.
Editing consisted Picnik's black and white and the coloring back in the mirror, and also the orton-ish effect.
Look at you gettin all artsy fartsy! I really like your creative process behind this - and it actually looks to me like a broken cauldron with bubbling lava inside. I'd be interested to hear other people's interpretations of it.
@pwallis
I'd like to hear other people's interpretations of this too. lol. I like the broken cauldron idea.....you're right, it kind of does. Any news on the camera?
@mej2011 no, I didn't make it too far out of the apt today, other than dogwalking, lol. I'm taking it in tomorrow to talk to the guys at the camera shop. I'm kind of looking forward to an upgrade though. Although I really had my eye on a new lens with that money:(
I rather like the color and how you processed it, but the focus looks blurry. I think it was the 1/4 second exposure...that was a bit too long if not using a tripod. You nailed the other camera settings good, though.
@jasonbarnette
Yes this was a small hand mirror.
The blur MIGHT be the orton-ish effect. It tends to have a blur effect, but it adds a nice light effect that I really like. Although, a tripod probably wouldn't have been a bad idea.
Thanks for taking a look and commenting! :)
@mej2011 Blah. Melissa, stop using these effects! Several times now I've noticed how a photo looks a bit blurry and it's always cause of an effect in Picnik. I think you are probably taking tack-sharp photos and ruining it a bit in post. I also see why you had such a hard time breaking this mirror; I was thinking of a wall mirror!
@jasonbarnette
I couldn't justify breaking a wall mirror. Ideally, that would have looked best, but sometimes you have to make due with what you have.
Blah! It looked soooooooooo boring without the effect though.
@janmaki@pwallis
What would I do without you two? You see things in such a way that I would never imagine. I wouldn't have thought this looked like a camera lens either, and yet it obviously does. Thanks!
Tee hee! Now I'm all up in the conversation and stuff. :) I can honestly say that I never saw this convo though! But now I'm obsessed with the mirror image thing. I will most likely cut my face off trying. But here we go!

Thanks Trina!
YAY NEW CAMERA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was that a small hand mirror?

Meant to ask you, is there a way to make a photo of a mirror look shattered using Gimp?
Have fun! lol
