Bad example - this is what you get, if you put the camera on a tripod and forget to close the viewfinder...
There was so much stray light coming in from the viewfinder, fooling exposure measurement and resulting in far too dark photos...
However, I was lucky to see the error before shooting was over, as you can see in the next two pics...
@ltsybitsy It is like this: When metering exposure, light comes through the lens and the viewfinder and exposure time will be calculated for that. When you release the shutter, the mirror swings up, blocking the viewfinder. Thus, only the light comming through the lens is available for exposure on the sensor, that is why it is too dark. Normaly, if you hold the camera, your eye/head is closing the viewfinder, and no stray light will affect exposure metering.
