This year we've toned down the Christmas decor considerably, mostly because nobody wants to drag the big tree and large box of ornaments in from the garage, and nobody wants to move furniture to make room for said tree (Dad used to do it).
Instead, we bought a shorter, narrower tree and unbreakable ornaments (because of the new kitty). We also stayed away from any garlands, though we did add lights. And I crocheted a basic tree skirt this weekend - just a hexagon made with white bulky yarn I had on hand. There's an opening so we can slide it around the tree after it's decorated.
Hopefully this is kitty-proof. Sure was easier for us to put together. :)
