Caught in the act Marilyn, excellent photo, it shows how pretty the bird is, and how it at ease on the side of the tree. tapping the bark will get the insects moving.
You've captured one of my most sought after photos. I love these birds. We have a pair in our neighborhood but they are very elusive and rarely make their appearance known (can just hear them squawking). One morning while out walking (WITHOUT MY CAMERA!!!) one landed less than 10 ft from us. He had just found something on the grass he wanted to eat. & lingered there for a considerable length of time. Talk about a missed photo opportunity. Never again will I venture any where without my camera. Fabulous shot, Marilyn.
@cimes1 Thank you. I rarely see these woodpeckers either. This was a stroke of luck. I was taking pictures of the bunny out in the grass when I saw the woodpecker land on the tree. I was so excited. I pointed the camera up and started taking pictures of it. Like you, I've missed shots, too, when I didn't have my camera with me. I hope you'll be able to get a chance to capture your woodpecker. I always at least have my point and shoot with me now when I'm out. :)
