This is one of the finest ruins in this town. It is a very large estate dominated by this wonderful mansion. Unfortunately, the surrounding garden is awfully forgotten and a decent shot of this splendour is almost impossible. Perhaps a more skilled photographer could do it.
This is a historical monument. It used to be the summer residence of the head of the Orthodox church in the area (equivalent of bishop or archbishop - a big-shot of the church). While this wonder was left to slow painful decay, a horrific building was raised somewhere on the same estate. I strongly believe that the new building is uglier than this decaying one. (You can partly see it on the left, but don't bother, it's not worth it).
And this concludes a tour of no more than 200 m on one of the main boulevards in my town. Yes, all these 5 buildings are so close one to the other.
These were taken with my zoom kit lens, on widedest angle suitable, for the Peter Forsgard assignement.
That is indeed a lovely old building and of significance as a churchman's home. I guess there is no money too fix all these lovely buildings....such a shame.
You have documented a real tragedy with your series. Even in decay the splendour of these marvellous old buildings shines. Thanks for sharing these images. How I would love to visit your city with my camera. I would probably wear out the shutter.
It is sad that buildings of such quality have been allowed to deteriorate like this. But on the positive side, at least it hasn't been demolished, so it can be restored at some point. I'm sorry that the wide angle of view makes it difficult to see the detail.
Thank you so much for taking this stroll with me. I do plan to show you some nicer buildings as well. Because we have some too.
