I dropped by my folks' house yesterday to be confronted by a stench... thinking it was a dead possum or rodent, I didn't worry.
But I heard the phone ring, and raced upstairs to find the whole house absolutely stunk!
The power had been disconnected... and it had been like that for a week!! OMG! After a number of phone calls, Energex came out and reconnected it all, my folks came home a day early and worked until 2am and then today, we dumped everything they had at the Browns Plains Dump.
I still can't get the smell of rotten meat out of my nose.

@dawnee Other things have gone wrong too. Two of the fridges - smaller ones - have to be dumped and a light has to be replaced. One of the fridges had fish in it and it just can't be used anymore; while the other one blew an engine when the power came back on after 24 hours. The light was a fluoro and Dad's had to replace the whole fitting... they're not letting this go; as this could have happened to anyone; and what would have happened if they were overseas and I wasn't able to be contacted?
It could have been far worse and yet the electricity company would still say they let everyone know by a letterbox drop; which is so old-fashioned it's not funny.
