Meet J. He's one of my favorite subjects to photograph!
J is one of my 5 BJD (ball-jointed doll) boys. Ball-jointed dolls are made of polyurethane resin, handcast and handstrung. They are anatomically correct, highly posable and customizable. My boys are 60cm tall. I bought J from a Yahoo! Japan auction 6 years ago. BJDs are not toys. They're collectibles.
You'll be seeing more of my boys in the coming days and weeks. I hope you'll enjoy seeing their photos! (My apologies to those who find dolls creepy. You may want to avoid visiting my album if that is the case.)
Thank you for comment my pic so kindly I realy appreciate it.
A beautiful pic stay a beatiful pic , the subject is relevant. Even an ugly can be beautiful captured
Well, Livia, we have something in common. I am an "auto" kind of person too. I figure that my camera knows more than I do and leave it to do its magic. LOL I don't find your dolls creepy at all. This is beautiful . . lovely angle, lighting, and color! :)
Thanks for your comments. I see we are both just three days into this. I will follow you with interest. Your subjects are not the normal ones that would attract me but I am willing to be open to see what you create.
Thank you, everyone, for your thoughtful comments! I really appreciate your having taken the time to visit and write.
Thank you for being curious about my dolls. I feel happy about this. When I was young (damn, I hate writing that), I didn't like dolls. I thought most of them were creepy. But, since I discovered the world of BJDs, I've fallen in love with these dolls. They are pretty amazing because they can be anything you want them to be and I want to share their special quality with anyone who has not seen or held a BJD before.
Thank you, again, for your kind words and gentle encouragement!
I think they are hauntingly beautiful. (And forgive me for saying) They sorta explore the boundaries of femininity and masculinity. Definitely a unique and interesting photography something that make people look twice. The fact that they open up a conversation of beautiful versus creepy make them all the more artistic!
Thank you for all your comments! I do read an dappreciate every single one of them.
@Josefa: I know what you mean! These dolls do have an androygnous quality to them even though there are specifically male and female sculpts. To some, they are artistic and beautiful. To others, they are unrealistic and overly pretty. That's okay. The world is so much more interesting when there are different perspectives. As they say, different strokes for different folks!
@Leah: My dolls are 60cm tall. That's about two feet. They are made of polyurethane resin (that can be sanded), so they're fairly heavy too. The body proportions are more realistic than cute.
I have to say honestly that the dolls do verge on creepy for me, but what interesting shots you've made of the three so far. I'm a person who has trouble with clowns and masks and now, I guess, dolls too. Love what you've done though and will enjoy following you. I, like you, love my auto focus Lumix and have enjoyed over the year learning some things about editing which turns out I love and giving titles to my shots.
welcome to the project ;)
