Sometimes I make a shot that I am attracted to... but in the way that one may be attracted to a ridiculous but not fatal mistake. This is one of those shots. It bugs me, but I can't really say why. Yet I'm reluctant to delete it and pretend it never happened. I don't know which is more weird: this shot or this mood I'm in.
The textures and tones in the middle of the flower are wonderful and I love how dark the center is. What's bothering you is that the out of focus area seems to pull the eye away from the in focus part, which is the opposite from what out and in focus is supposed to do. If you were to change anything to try and improve the shot, I would suggest perhaps a slower aperture to bring the petals on the outside more into focus. Also maybe change the angle of your light source a bit to darken them so they don't pop out so much. Other than that, the composition, angle and tone is great. :)
This is a beautiful photo. The part that would bug me is the blur of the petals of this flower. Just saying. But the important part of this photo is the
detail of the middle of this beautiful flower.
For me, The focus on the dark space at the centre of the flower feels like it is almost pulling me into it, an eerie yet fascinating feeling. I really like the picture and don't know if it is because of, or in spite of that feeling! Of course, that is only MY response to it, I have no idea what YOUR feelings may be attributed to!
I can't figure out why you think it's off the mark. Maybe because the flower center is so far to the left and headed out of the shot??? But, I think it's lovely!
There is something gritty in the detail of a flower shot this close that is both appealing and repulsive. There is a certain ewww factor (for me) but then again, I like it.
Livia, I've had one or two photos like this one...I like it/hate it and just don't know why...it's an interesting perspective on a flower done close up, and I think that's what intrigues me most about it. I think it's a very nicely done photo. :-)
I have many shots like that, ones that I'm not happy with, but am drawn to for some reason. This is really lovely though. Love the softness of the petals and how the eye is drawn to the centre of the flower.
It's got to be your mood, my dear! You (and I) are our own worst critics. This photo is beautiful BECAUSE it has that "fatal" attraction. One is pulled right into that center . . and then that "soft spot" gently holds you there. Don't delete or change a thing.
how interesting to read your comment - i passed over this to look at another one but was clearly drawn back; there's something really appealing about it and it has an odd pull
@timeweaver Thank you so much for your analysis and comment. I believe you've hit the nail on the head! 8D I'll keep your advice in mind the next time I shoot a flower this way. Again, thank you! I feel better about the photo now, now that I know what exactly it is that's off about it. 8)
I think it might be the off centeredness of it. Only slight. The upper right petal seems a bit too dominant perhaps when your eye wants to look into the middle of the flower. I don't know. I still like it and it reminds me a little of basket weave.
I often find I feel very differently about pictures a few days later.
detail of the middle of this beautiful flower.
I appreciate all your comments. You all are just amazing for being so supportive. Thank you so much for your time. I am grateful.
Again, thank you!
