We're still on slipper orchids! *hears yawns and moans and sighs*
Technically, this is not a petal. It's a sepal, which is actually the glorified remains of the flower bud. Typically, an orchid flower has 3 sepals and 3 petals. This particular sepal is the dorsal sepal, which is the topmost one in slipper orchids. To me, it looks magnificent, so I couldn't resist taking a closer shot. 8D
Awesome flower and shot! I know these flowers are cool but alot of it is you. I have tried taking pics of flowers and they never come out anywhere near as cool as yours.

@trumpetman My camera is the Sony NEX-C3 which is one of those mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. Not a DSLR. I used the Sony 30mm f/3.5 macro lens to take this shot. 8)
@janturnbull Thank you! I tend to read as much as I can about something I really like, so when I have time I'm browsing the internet to look for information and articles on orchids. Most of them are too technical though, and I get my brain all tied up in knots trying to understand! 8D
