Tiny jumping spider is tiny! This one is not quite 1cm (0.3in) across!
I'm not a fan of spiders but when they're this tiny, I have to admit they're kind of cute. Haha. These ground-dwelling jumping spiders have excellent eyesight to hunt prey with. They have 8 eyes, with 4 of them at the front. Did you know that they can jump a distance that is 20-30 times their own body length?
I shot this little guy at a pond outside the Labrador Nature Reserve. I had squatted down to shoot a turtle but the turtle was surly and disappeared into the water faster than I could go "Wait!" Still squatting, I caught a tiny movement on a dead leaf close by and looked, and found this spider. He was very curious and kept staring at me! I managed to get 10-12 shots before he decided I was really a great big bore and jumped away in search of greater entertainment. 8D
Seriously - a jumping spider? And a tiny jumping spider at that! So no chance of seeing it before it jumps on you! Patty is so (there is that word again!) right ICK! You are incredibily brave. So much detail - to say that I had to re-look - Ick! Brave, courageous and fearless Livia
Again your macro work amazes me Livia! A wonderfully done capture with a great story on top of it! And yes....when they're this tiny, they are kinda' cute huh! :-)
He's such a lovely color and has the coolest textures ... I'm glad that he didn't jump "on" you!! I had a chipmunk run straight at me the other day. A little unsettling!
The detail is amazing, having a strong fear of ALL spiders, I would not have been able to get close enough to get this detail, not with 8 pairs of eyes and the gymnastic skills this little guy has!
@claireuk *LOL* I'm not brave at all! It's a really tiny spider! If I met a spider bigger than the nail on my little finger, I would have backed away really quickly. And if it had long legs, I would have screamed first. XD
@groovygirlrn I use the Sony NEX-C3 which is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. This shot was taken with the Sony 30mm f/3.5 macro lens. 8)
Excellent shot! I was just thinking tonight that if I were a spider, I would first want to be a tarantula (coolness factor) but second I would want to be a jumping spider because they are impossible to catch.
Livia !! Your killing me with these Amazing Macro's!! OMG!! This one is fabulouse i love his hairy body and his beautiful blue glowing eye's.....hmmmm..... that sounds kinda sexy!! :) FAV!
oh wow, we are almost over run by jumping spiders and i quite like them but i dont think they look exactly like this? more brown i think. @cmc1200 not impossible, my boy likes to bring me one now and then :)
That is such a fantastic photo! i really do not like spiders in any way but the one really was looking at you and its eyes are so intriguing!! Fantastic job!!
Wow....fav. Incredible capture. Great composition, texture, dof and all around awesomeness (thats an official term in photography if you didn't know. LOL) I love spiders by the way. Have always been fascinated by them. My wife yells at me all the time, cause if there's one in the house, I won't kill it, just move it to the outside.
A great, big, kind of cute, shiny-eyed, jump-for-joy "THANK YOU!" to everyone!
The eyes are awesome, aren't they? I think spiders are quite amazing. I don't mind the tiny ones, as long as they aren't leggy. There's just something about long-legged spiders, whether small or big, that freaks me out. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and comment. Please know that I am grateful for your constant encouragement and support. Thank you so much!
Apart from that: amazing detail. Where do you find all these?
wow, wow!

@sebella @traeumerlein87 I visit parks, nature reserves and mangrove forests for my macro shots. This one was photographed at a pond outside the Labrador Nature Reserve: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labrador_Nature_Reserve
@monika64 Yes, they are his eyes. He has 4 eyes in front, 2 behind them and 2 more on top of his carapace.

Great shot. :)
