Not a good shot, but it's the only one I have of this little guy! He was gone before I could take a second photo! XD
The reason why I wanted his picture is because I've not seen a spider do what he did—he was sprawled on the blade of grass! Totally flat, with his legs completely straightened. Usually, the jumping spiders I see (check my other photos again if you like) are standing, on the go, with legs flexed and ready to jump. This one looked like he was trying to get a tan in the sun. By the time he spotted me (what you see in the shot) his legs were already slightly raised but, you can see that one of his back legs is still completely straightened out and flat.
I'm still amazed at how he went from this I-Am-So-Relaxed! posture to I-Am-Gone! in a nanosecond. I didn't even see it happen. Boy, they're fast.
The thing about photos is, nothing moves. But jumping spiders are cutest when they turn around to look at you with their big adorable eyes! Seriously! So, if I may, I'd like to recommend watching this video. It's a good introduction to the world's tiniest, cutest, most colorful jumping spiders.
WOW! I just watched the video. That is so cool! You are so right about them being cutest when they turn around and look at you. At the end of the video they mentioned how curious jumpers are with humans. Funny!
I'm so impressed with the clarity and detail of your shots - these little dudes are TINY :)
That's wonderful....I love his "expression"! He looks very quizzical...like 'what are you disturbing me for"! It's hard to imagine spiders as curious, but apparently so!
We have space ,you have jumping spiders and mangroves.. I think every country has his one beauty. Thank you for the nice lines. I can understand it. I`m born as a city boy. I always have the feeling of lost in big cities it`s /you`re very very lonely there .On countryside i`m just alone but never feel lonely. Our suns lives in cities and when they come for a visit they always surprise they can see the/a horizon. If you take a map or Google you can see the part I live is a river delta. In 1953 it was flooded by the sea after a big storm and bursting of the dikes. 175.000 hectare of land was flooded by the see. We have reclaimed it.
Back to you spiders , It`s a marvelous beautiful collection and... more to come. Yippy.
I have always admired your ability to capture these beauties ... but watching that video has given me new respect for the difficulty of catching a photo. You rock, girl. This is awesome. Beautiful clarity, colors and pov. Looking forward to more. :)
you are killing me, young lady. i so can't stop laughing at this photo. i mean, look at the expression on his face. it's like: "what the...! can't i have some privacy? i'm trying to relax!"
those eyes are to die for... these things always look like those annoying gelatin toys my kids used to get around hallowe'en... oh wait... guess i'd be the one who bought them @@@@ great catch as always, and as always, wonderful descriptive info!
I love that he is looking right at you - for some reason you never seem to think of a spider interacting with humans. Seeing them and then reacting. This one is completely checking you out
He has the cutest expression on his face like he's really trying to tell you something. I am so impressed by the great eye you have for catching these little guys. Fab shot!!
So cute all sprawled out! Yours are so much cuter than the ones in the clips by the way! Geez, they're fast, I'd be flinching and ducking all over the place!
He's studying you very attentively. He seems surprised at a human taking a photo of him. So cute (I never thought I would find a spider cute, but the way)
A great, big, relaxed, curious and calm "THANK YOU!" to all! Glad you've enjoyed seeing Mr Relaxed Spider. Our acquaintance was super brief but I am glad I have this one shot to remember it by. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment. Please know that I appreciate your encouragement and support very much. 8)
Looks like you had fun with this theme. I am not a huge spider fan- but I have found that it's really amazing to see them through the camera lens. This little guy's eyes make the picture- and all I could think of was the phrase from Little Red Riding Hood, "My my what big eyes you have!" Great shot!
I'm so impressed with the clarity and detail of your shots - these little dudes are TINY :)
