You know, Bert from Bert & Ernie on Sesame Street? Well, when I saw this spider's unibrow, I thought, "Bert!?" XD
This little guy was about 8mm (0.3in). He was very spritely, very active, and kept turning around to look at me. Actually, he came towards me several times, as if he meant to check me out at close quarters, and I had to retreat a little because I didn't want him jumping on to my lens.
You can see very clearly his eyes, his legs, his palps and his chelicerae. Cheli-what? Yeah. Technical term for his mouth parts, what most of us usually refer to as his jaws or fangs. His fangs are actually part of his cheli-what, right at the very tips.
What I loved about Bert are his colors. He had gorgeous metallic hues, all green and gold and black all over. He was a very handsome looking jumper. 8D
Love that you named him Bert! They should know you on a first name basis! You are certainly their friend! Wonderful focus and your usual awesome composition!
He is such gorgeous colours. I think I managed a shot of a jumping spider in France. Do they live in France? He looked the same shape/size but he didn't jump. Maybe it was wishful thinking. It wasn't a great shot though. I don't know how you get such fab focus xx
Amazing and actually yes a pretty shot. I wonder if they know you by now, they must see you there all the time, he does look as though he is smiling at you:0)
I'm faving more spiders lately.....LOL! 2nd one today. Who knew I would ever have a fondness for spiders ;-) Fabulous detail and color. I am so amazed by their captivating expressions. Yes, fav!
@kittikat Actually, I can't figure it out either. Sometimes I find them and sometimes I don't. There are more of them in the mangrove forest than in the park but even so, I don't see them on every trip I make. I know they are daytime hunters and like the sun, so I do expect to have a little better luck on brighter days. They are hardly anywhere to be seen when it's really cloudy or about to rain. But I actually prefer to be out on a cloudy day because I don't like getting baked by the hot sun. XD
Your descriptions are so entertaining; keeps me reading and giggling!! Were you ever a teacher? Your writings are so informative and never boring. Another brilliant macro shot of these little guys, Livia!!
Haha! He looks so serious and inquisitive - like he's about to take out his camera and get a shot of you! Awesome detail in this shot! How on earth do you make spiders cute?!
Seriously, only you can make an ugly bug such a character!!! I keep remembering faces of your bugs, like those from Bug's Life movie that my daughter adored when she was younger - actually I think she still does ;)
@pyrrhula Have not watched a complete episode of Sesame Street for many years now! But, now and then, I get the urge to watch a skit or two (especially the ones with Grover and Mr Johnson, the fat blue man) and I'd search for the videos onlines. I'll always love Sesame Street. 8)
@adeakinyede A teacher!? I've never wanted to be a teacher and never was, it's the one occupation I would consciously steer clear of! XD (Oddly enough, I've had strangers, at various points in my life, guessed that I was a teacher type. Haha, it made me want to slam my head against the wall a little.) I would not make a good teacher at all. I'm an anti-social and impatient person. I think I write fairly well, but I would not teach well. At all. 8)
A great, big, Bert-like, energetic and lively "THANK YOU!" to everyone!
I'm not sure where to find Ernie but I suppose I'll know him when I see him. Heh. Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by. I appreciate all your comments and encouragement.
@myautofocuslife Good point. Secretly I was hoping you'd say that. I like zoos, but when I see a tiger bored, laying in a 30 square foot cage, I bugs me. They should be free. Wild. But thats the world we live in I guess. Donn't think you'd need it as a pet anyway. Part of the thrill must be finding them too.
Great shot!

Again, thank you very much.
