There is not one but two massive climate-controlled conservatories on the Gardens by the Bay. This shot was taken inside the Cloud Forest dome. (View the large version if you like.) It recreates the atmosphere and conditions of a tropical mountain forest. There is a 115-foot (35-metre) waterfall and walkways around it. It's quite an experience to be walking around at that height. If you don't like being in high places, the walkways will prove to be an exciting experience. 8D
Entry to the Gardens is free, but you need to buy tickets to enter the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest. I bought an annual pass because I know I will be visiting again. And again. And again. I love seeing flowers and plants everywhere! And I enjoy the wonderfully cool air inside the domes. A great way to escape the brain-baking tropical heat for a few hours.
From tomorrow, flower shots. I have way too many of them. But I'll try to alleviate the monotony with other types of shots. In August, anything goes! ;D
I'd have bought a pass in a heartbeat.
Gorgeous. I'd love to come and see how I do on those high walkways with you. Can't wait to see the flower shots!
At some places in Holland we have something similar, Botanic tropical gardens. Nice to visit in wintertime when it`s cold outside A lovely and great view of yours Can`t wait to see you flower pic.
Gorgeous pov and beautiful circular lines and textures! I can imagine how it must feel to walk around way up there. Both looking up AND down would be so exciting. I'd definitely buy a year's pass to go there ...what a wonderful place.
It's a small world! I read the article and the horticulturist mentioned - I went to school with him!!! No wonder we haven't been able to contact him for school reunions, if he lives in Singapore now!! . You have solved a mystery :))
@tonydebont No, my lens didn't fog up, which I thought was strange. (I had expected it to happen.) But it might be because it wasn't all that cold? It was comfortably cool in the conservatories, but not as cold as it is in the much smaller Cool House in the Botanic Gardens. Whenever I go into the Cool House and then leave, my lens does fog up!
It sounds like an awesome structure! Imagine an indoor waterfall complete with tropical climate! I think the annual pass was a wise choice! I'm sure the walkways would give me butterflies in my stomach, but I'd go because I'd want to see what it looked like from there.
@summerfield Yes, I went all the way up, walked the walkways, took lots of photos, even with my camera held over the edge of the top of the railing, but most of them turned out crappy. 8P
@kittikat Didn't see any insects at all although I spotted two sparrows and wondered how they had gotten into the conservatory. Out in the gardens, in the sun, there were butterflies, bees and lots of (web-spinning) spiders.
Wow, beautiful shot with great lines and shapes. It looks like a wonderful place to visit but it does look like it could be kind of scary to be up that high.
A great, big, really high, really cool, really bright "THANK YOU!" to everyone for stopping by! I had fun on the walkway. Kids loved it. A couple of adults didn't, they didn't like being so high up and they made sure they walked right in the middle of the walkway. Because, if you walked along the sides, you could see through the floor panels all the way down. I thought it was pretty exciting. Thank you so much for your supportive comments. I am grateful.
Stunning architecture. And a brilliant way to preserve and bring a different world into yours. Great capture. Loving this. Glad you got a yearly pass, cause it means we can all visit through your eyes.
@vickisfotos Actually, no, there were no bugs to be seen inside the conservatories. I always go to the mangrove forests and grasslands to find bugs to shoot. 8)
This looks like an amazing place. so much to see. for someone afraid of heights like me do you think it would be ok to walk around way up there. I would dare it.
Reminds me a little of the Eden Project in Cornwall ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eden_project).
Gorgeous. I'd love to come and see how I do on those high walkways with you. Can't wait to see the flower shots!
would love to visit there too.
Do you have problems with you lens fogging up when you leave this cool atmosphere ??
