On my second trip to the Cloud Forest at the Gardens by the Bay, I saw something I hadn't seen on my first visit. This is the shot I took. It is a different view of the same structure (which is a walkway around a 115-foot (35-metre) waterfall inside the cooled conservatory) you can see in this earlier photo: http://365project.org/myautofocuslife/365/2012-08-09
Periodically, to simulate the cool and humid environment of a tropical forest in a mountainous region, water jets spray into the air to create a fine mist. When it happened, I could hear an audible murmur of "Oooh..." from the crowd in the conservatory. Everyone stopped and looked.
I would have been so protective of my camera too! On the times I go out without the camera bag, I take a carrier bag just in case it rains - live in the UK remember, can rain at anytime!
Brilliant atmospheric shot
Love your pov and the misty look here ... beautiful soft lighting! Like you, I, too, would have worried about the camera. I no longer go into our conservatory here just for that reason. Especially in the winter when the temp change is so drastic. Camera's more important than the photo sometimes!!
@tonydebont@karenann Absolutely! The camera's more important than the photo! And my own need to protect myself too! *LOL* Often, I would spot an interesting bug or insect somewhere but, to get to it, I would have to step into a thick patch full of tall grass where I really wouldn't be able to tell if there's a monitor lizard or big snake hiding on the ground since I can't see the ground that well. So I don't even try. On the few occasions when The Husband was with me, he'd go, hey, no problem, I'll go first and hold the grass back for you, go get your shot! I would be like, oh no you don't, what if you get bitten by some scorpion or snake, I want you to get out of there right now! And so I pass on many photo ops this way. XD
The BW on this really shows up the spray. But that walkway is seiously high up - not for anyone with vertigo. At least the spray was so high up you'have a dew minutes grace before it hit your camera!
A great, big, foggy, cloud-like and bright "THANK YOU!" to everyone for stopping by! I kept my camera safe after taking a few shots. It was a pretty cool experience. Thank you so much for your supportive comments. Please know that I am grateful. Again, thank you.
Livia,
I'm with you. I'm sure I've missed some good shots for fear of getting my camera wet! Nice shot.
Brilliant atmospheric shot
Here's a cake to take on your next visit. It's very rich, using 100% cacao but it's good.
