Herding Aphids by mzzhope

Herding Aphids

Chemicals on ants' feet tranquilise and subdue colonies of aphids, ( Those little yellow critters. They are amazons! All females! But I digress)keeping them close-by as a ready source of food. Aphids survive on sucking the juice from plants and then secrete a sticky sugary "Honeydew" that the ants love to eat. Insects are so cool. :)
brilliant macro - and I really appreciate the information too!
