Hemlock trees provide shade and shelter for wildlife. I love photographing the tiny cones with my macro. But Hemlock trees have been in decline. We have lost several of our big ones due to an infestation of woolly Adelgid .It’s happening all over the USA. The hemlock woolly adelgid (Adelges tsugae) is an aphid-like insect that covers itself with a white, waxy "wool" which acts as a protective coating for the insect. Insecticides that kill them would kill everything else. So that’s a no go.
Sorry to hear about decline of Hemlock trees though
