Depression takes bright, intelligent, happy, active, busy, enthusiastic people with their lives ahead of them and turns them into sad, quiet, hopeless individuals. 3 months ago I was running an event which touched over 1000 people, focusing on my degree, crocheting tonnes of items, going out with my friends, laughing and joking. Today, I cried because I had to leave my room and go to a lecture and quite frankly, that was far too overwhelming for my mind to comprehend. It takes everything from you. It takes hours of your day because everything takes twice as long. It destroys your friendships because you don't have the energy to see them or the brain space to talk to them. It takes your concentration so you can't focus on reading a book or watching TV. It takes your hobbies - you don't have the energy to do them, and they're not enjoyable any more, anyway. It leaves you, a young adult, sat on your bed, clutching your teddies and blankets in the hope of feeling better and wondering how to get dressed.
You are a gifted writer Naomi as well as being creative and skilled at handiwork, you have so much to offer. I hope that you are getting the support you need to get you through these dark and difficult days.
Great shot and you have an amazing way with your words. I know all too well how crippling depression and anxiety can be, and it can be so hard to make people who have never experienced it for themselves understand just how much of a struggle life can be when you have to deal with these feelings on a daily basis.
Your words and good photo tell your story well. Look at how the red on your fingers show how tightly you are holding poor teddy. Very tense. Hope your spirits lifts soon. In the meantime keep taking geat photos.
