Preparing

...for a pit firing. I was hoping we were going to fire today, but no. And the pug mill didn't work either, so it was a bit of a disappointing morning.
But you got a great pre-firing shot!

How fascinating. Please tell me more about the stuff wrapped around some of these pieces. That looks like steel wool around the big one in the centre, and paper and wire around the one on the right? And then one with straw in a tin. What does this do?

@seacreature yep, steel wool that I sprinkles with salt and then sprayed with water. So hopefully it will leave a lovely rusty brown pattern on the clay.
The small piece has copper sulphate and iron sulphate sprinkled onto it and then wrapped in corn husks which are secured with wire (not sure what will happen with the husks) the one in the tin is nestled in a bed of sawdust and straw with a few things sprinkled in there. It's all so random, I have no idea what's going to happen Desi...Fingers crossed and prayers to the kiln gods!

@narayani Oh wow. That sounds so awesome! Can't wait to see the results of each one now that I know! This is going to become nail biting stuff
