When you look into the world of lichens you look back through hundreds of millions of years. These primative organisms are found on practically every tree or rock in unpolluted places. Yet very few people see them. Despite being unnoticed they have been a part of life on earth longer than most other organisms. They will probably be here long after humans have gone.
Lichens are a unique symbiosis between algae and fungi and have colonised some of the most inhospitable places on earth. They are also a world of colour and texture all of thier own.

Nice work! Lichen are fascinating and I enjoyed your commentary. 'Tis my belief that if a picture is worth sharing it is surely worth a few words of explanation, so thank you for sharing the complete picture!
I love to look at things that are sooo old - like the Gingko tree or lichen :). Great close-up, really shows the interesting texture of lichen. And thanx for the follow :))
I really love lichen. The whole family is something of an enigma because of the wierd biological history. The whole two different organisms thing is so unique. But you are right nature is so amazing...
