As the boat crosses the finish line the top crews are still working hard. Here the whole crew pulls together for the last stroke. The only person sitting still during the last effort is the drummer as he is the first across the line. You can just see the corner of the finish sign in the top left of the picture.
This shot is hand-held and panned at 1/15th sec. Cropped, otherwise SOOC.
This is the last shot in my Dragon Boat series. I hope you enjoyed it. I have loved reading your comments and thank you all for stopping by to see the fun.

such amazing shots. i had never heard of dragon racing until 365 and then discovered they do them right here in vermont! i will be off to cover them, if time permits, in the spring.
Like the pan Damon, 1/15 sec was to slow, as the oarsmen lowered themselves so they were out of focus, First man and boat is in focus, the panning was ok.
@dannydavies - actually, that was the point. I knew they would all be going for it as it was the last "push". So I wanted the emphasis of movement to be on everything except the one thing that was still - the drummer. It was a difficult artistic decision to do that. As you rightly point out it would not work for the majority of panning shots. But a good pan always retains at least one sharp element. That was exactly what I did here. I was really pleased because it worked on the second attempt.
A delight. and now I now a lot more about them. thanks
