@netkonnexion Yes. I'm not sure which is worse: to have been optimistic and have your hopes dashed when the optimisim proved misplaced, or to have been pessimistic and never have enjoyed the feelings of optimism.
On the whole, the pessimist gets the better deal when proved wrong, I think. As long as they don't enjoy being pessimistic, of course!
If I remember rightly I was feeling very downhearted about the whole Brexit business and was conflating the sentiments here and that.
