Lake George

I took this photo out of the car window as we were passing Lake George.

Believe it or not but this is actually a lake. I can remember the water lapping the edge of the road when I was a child however it has been almost empty for many many years. There is a little bit of water near the mountains in the background. These days you will find sheep or cows grazing where the water should be.
It still has a lake-like feel to it even without the water. I'm sure it's heartbreaking to see it at the level it is now.

So what has caused the lower water levels? This is a lovely scene, I’m sorry though about the water issue.

@olivetreeann @louannwarren - this link should answer your questions better than I can https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_George_(New_South_Wales)

That's quite a dramatic change.

In black-and-white it’s difficult to tell there is no water or very little water in it! Thanks for the link. I agree with Ann it definitely still looks like a lake. I like the minimalist look to your photo which is excellent for a drive by!

I lived in Canberra in 1966 and the whole time I was there, the lake was full to the brim. I wasn't even aware that this was a bit unusual and that it emptied until many years later when I visited Canberra and as you say, there were cows grazing in the lake.
