Brollies in the Rain by northy

Brollies in the Rain

Sooooooo... uhm... yeah... ok... i have two challengers for get pushed this week... this was supposed to be for one set by Jake Sorensen which is to: "take a photo in the style or spirit of your favorite artist who's main medium is not photography!"

I read this challenge off my iPhone this morning, and being quite the phillistine, this kinda thru me for a loop... am i supposed to have a favorite artist? the first one that came to mind was Monet and impressionism... Monet did lots of flowers and lilypads... he also did ladies with umbrellas (altho' I expect they were intended to be parasols - whatevs ;D)... Renoir (also an impressionist) did a rain and umbrella painting too since it was pouring rats, bats and alleycats today, I thought maybe intentional camera movement (or extreme motion blur) would work...

I'm not sure I really pulled it off, but, mess tho' it is, I'm kinda liking the effect... and of course, I like it even more in black and white ;p

Love the sense of movement and the painterly effect, I actually like it best in colour which is unusual for me!

Love this! Fabulous idea and capture! I like both versions for different reasons, this one has a real 'painting' artsy feel, and I'll tell you in the other one why I like that one...

I don't know how you agree to do these sorts of challenges - it involves so much thought and time! Good for you!

Fabulous effect...i think for once I may like the colour better!

It reminds me very much of a painting of a particular Parisian street scene by another artist of the Monet/Renoir era whose name I can't remember. This is really lovely and original: it has the same elegance and it could have been taken in Paris. Bien fait!

Really like both shots! Great effect. The b & w version has a slight edge for me as its more "gritty" and more details are visible.
September 7th, 2012
Great effect!
September 7th, 2012
Loving this in colour!
September 8th, 2012
yeah, I'm feeling it. I don't know about Monet but its certainly got a blurry, impressionist charm.
September 10th, 2012
I think you've accomplished an Impressionism meets 21st century photography shot here. Great job in blending several challenges into one.
September 12th, 2012
