So - the good news is that I have moved to a new "cubby" (aka cubicle) at work, and now i have a window :)
The other bit of good news is that I figured out how to get from Lightoom to Nik Silver Efex (do NOT roll your eyes at me)... up until now, i've been taking the scenic route and getting there via PSE...
My frustration comes from the fact that I can't figure out what the heck i am exporting when i've taken a second stab at editing... and what i would REALLY like to be able to do is go back into nik and FIX an edit rather than having to start from scratch each time... but i have yet to figure out if this is even possible...
The above is a view from my cubby looking across the street at Ryerson University... this is a tiny bit of a larger shot...
Incidentally, this was originally shot RAW... being a control freak i figure it's time i became better acquainted with this format...
Thank you for the continued visits and comments... i am afraid i have fallen behind in viewing and commenting again and i'm short on time tonight... i will work on catching up over the next few days...
Cassandra sent me a link for as video tutorial on exporting from Lightroom, which was helpful. It is the equivalent to save, and the video covered some details I probably would never have noticed. I'm wanting to try silver efex... I was thinking it would somehow be integrated into lr. Sorry to hear it is frustrating. Yay for new cubicle/window view! Interesting shot.
I love the soft focus in this one! Congrats on the new cubby with window!! :) Have fun playing in Lightroom :) It took me quite a while too, but I love it now :) :)
@cmc1200 i've been playing around with lightroom for weeks now and still only scratching the surface... on a more positive note, i started watching one of the adobe lightroom tutorials and whereas when i first started with LR in the summer i found them incomprehensible, i'm now at least able to keep up with the language and concepts... guess it just has to be baby steps for me...
I've never tried LR, I got a copy of CS5 & play with that but am dying to get my hands on Silver Efex, I used the trial & loved it but now have to save!!!
1) Hang in there with the RAW - sooo worth it! 2) Do you remember how many times I moaned about learning lightroom ;) I had a seemingly endless learning curve, (months not weeks!!) but finally I can understand export, edit in..., print to... etc! Now I look back the the pre-RAW pre-lightroom images, I am really surprised by the differences I can see. Anyway I feel (guiltily) relieved to hear I was not the only one to struggle to get on top of LR! I use Silver efex a lot less since I played with LR B&W & some pre-sets.
After using a "borrowed" copy of CS3 for a long time, I purchased LR 4 a couple months ago and am *still* in the learning process. I'm doing my entire 2013 project in monochrome and am getting some decent conversions with LR, but I'd definitely like to give Silver Efex a try. The B&W conversions by people who use it are always impressive.
Love the dreamy feel. Congrats on your window. :)
I don't think you can go back into Silver Efex Pro and change an edit - at least not that I've found. I think there might be a cool way to do it with CS6 smart objects, but I don't have CS6 so have never tried it.
I still go into SFX via PSE purely because I found SFX screwed up my Lightroom keyword catalogue...
@humphreyhippo hmmm... tx HH... haven't figured out the catalogue key word aspect of LR yet... dang... one more thing to worry on! oh well... baby steps baby steps!
Nice to cubby! That's a pic of my alma mater....though from when it was RPI and not RU! (hard to think it was 30+ yrs ago!).....anyhow....like your focus in this...I know the programs you're talking about but I am just learning PSE and starting to feel comfortable with that....so the rest will have to wait!
Missed this shot, rather like it. Once you have gone back to LR from Silver Efex you cannot go back to change the Silver Efex edit.
Also I'm feeling guilty, yeah I'm not all badass, do you want me to take back Get Pushed? You have a family and shit so I guess I have more spare time than you :)
@jase_h dang! you're not? i feel so disillusioned ;p if you want it back, you are more than welcome... however, i've kind of got it down to a smooth process and it's not a huge time-suck so i'm fine with sticking with it... and i expect it'll get better once the newbies have all settled in :)
I love all the straight lines although it has a kind of curved look to it...not sure if that makes any sense...Great eye through to the intriguing scene beyond xx

Congratulations on the window.
