epic fail on just about all fronts here...
1. i can't write prose... srsly... ask me to draft a briefing note or a tech manual and i'm your gal... right a story? not so much!
2. honest - it's a shot of me looking into a mirror - but i'm not actually certain you can tell...
3. the displacement map didn't work... this is something like my 6th run at it, and i'm still not happy...
somewhat better viewed small
i desperately need to get out somewhere where i can see something different to shoot... unfortunately the kids hockey schedule is such that i spend most of my time in arenas, taxi-ing the kids around, and hanging out at home with the kids who aren't currently in an arena... there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day :(
thank you all for the great comments and the favs on my twisted shot... i really appreciate them all!
I have a mirror shot in mind for the theme and can't seem to figute out how to pull it off. Have you seen the kids book Bad Case of Stripes? This reminds me of that. It came put pretty cool actually.
fun idea - and I sympathise - I'm rushing past all sorts of photo opportunities without time to stop and line up shots. What about a series of abstracts from stadia / stadiums?
@shannejw i've tried... completely uninspiring... the one thing about arenas that i am intrigued by are the hallways and lights... i've done a few "rink rat" shots with one of my boys posing... but getting cooperation, a good comp and not too many other people cluttering up the scene is a rare thing...

Ha! I hate it when that happens! But plaid is even more embarrassing! Good job on this! I am no expert on PS and you are, so I don't even want to say this, but ...to me, the place where you can see some thing that indicates the PS-ing is around your hand. Was it possible to "burn" a shadow under your hand? that seems like that would have helped. But what do I know? I am an amateur compared to you!
@espyetta tx MaryBeth... yes - my hand was a big problem... first i applied the displacement map to it, and overall it looked better, but it didn't really work because the pattern blended into my face if you know what i mean... and yeah, i tried burning in a bit of shadow - but i guess it wasn't enough... sigh..
@archaeofrog@espyetta the original concept had the strikes on me on the left side and leopard spots on the reflection - as in breaking out in spots... but the displacement map was being such a pain in the a$$ i decided to simplify
i don't think i have anything that is plaid... but the checkerboard concept someone mentioned above is appealing ;p
@archaeofrog@northy Katie! ha! Great minds think alike. I did not see your plaid comment. Or was it after mine? I am too tired to read all the comments to see. And Northy...the shot is great! And when you are burning in shadow, I always worry it is too much...so go light, maybe? It is a great shot...you are just too much a perfectionist!
@maggiemae (a) they resist... A LOT and (b) portraiture just doesn't do much for me i'm afraid...
