nerves aflutter, broken out in stripes

doncha just hate breaking out in stripes right before the big meeting?

for the 5+2 theme (seeing double) and the 6 word story thing...

epic fail on just about all fronts here...
1. i can't write prose... srsly... ask me to draft a briefing note or a tech manual and i'm your gal... right a story? not so much!
2. honest - it's a shot of me looking into a mirror - but i'm not actually certain you can tell...
3. the displacement map didn't work... this is something like my 6th run at it, and i'm still not happy...

somewhat better viewed small

i desperately need to get out somewhere where i can see something different to shoot... unfortunately the kids hockey schedule is such that i spend most of my time in arenas, taxi-ing the kids around, and hanging out at home with the kids who aren't currently in an arena... there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day :(

thank you all for the great comments and the favs on my twisted shot... i really appreciate them all!
Close encounter with a zebra! Fun shot! Why don't you take pics of the children's faces?

I like it!

@joemuli bahaaaa! i wish you would!

@maggiemae (a) they resist... A LOT and (b) portraiture just doesn't do much for me i'm afraid...

Love that we can still see your eyes. Well done - looks awesome.

Great b&w

@luvmynynix i hadn't heard of that book but now i think i need it :) tx!
January 19th, 2014
Totally fun, despite it not being what you wanted. Love your 'title' story and the images it brings to mind.
January 19th, 2014
I hate when that happens! But the checkerboard face is even worse. Clever!!
January 19th, 2014
Love the narrative on this pic…with your schedule I don't know how you have time to shoot any pictures at all!
January 19th, 2014
I have a mirror shot in mind for the theme and can't seem to figute out how to pull it off. Have you seen the kids book Bad Case of Stripes? This reminds me of that. It came put pretty cool actually.
January 19th, 2014
Super cool shot.Imaginative, fun and I agree with @amandal .You need to check out that book if you haven't seen it.:)
January 19th, 2014
fun idea - and I sympathise - I'm rushing past all sorts of photo opportunities without time to stop and line up shots. What about a series of abstracts from stadia / stadiums?
January 19th, 2014
Very clever ...fav
January 19th, 2014
Cool!!!
January 19th, 2014
Very clever - and an equally clever story to set it off... well done.
January 19th, 2014
@shannejw i've tried... completely uninspiring... the one thing about arenas that i am intrigued by are the hallways and lights... i've done a few "rink rat" shots with one of my boys posing... but getting cooperation, a good comp and not too many other people cluttering up the scene is a rare thing...
there's this one: http://365project.org/northy/365/2013-06-01

and then the one on flickr that you commented on (and that wasn't posed) https://www.flickr.com/photos/northy44/11763087984/in/set-72157639285441545

January 19th, 2014
This is great. Very creative.
January 19th, 2014
great story, and idea
January 19th, 2014
Whoa, think this really works. Fav for me.
January 19th, 2014
Very cool image, love the idea!!
January 19th, 2014
Ha! I hate it when that happens! But plaid is even more embarrassing! Good job on this! I am no expert on PS and you are, so I don't even want to say this, but ...to me, the place where you can see some thing that indicates the PS-ing is around your hand. Was it possible to "burn" a shadow under your hand? that seems like that would have helped. But what do I know? I am an amateur compared to you!
January 19th, 2014
@espyetta tx MaryBeth... yes - my hand was a big problem... first i applied the displacement map to it, and overall it looked better, but it didn't really work because the pattern blended into my face if you know what i mean... and yeah, i tried burning in a bit of shadow - but i guess it wasn't enough... sigh..
January 19th, 2014
Great selfie Northy, very cool and nicely done!
January 19th, 2014
Beautiful, and creative shot, love it :)
January 19th, 2014
Tricky, tricky. Personally I am a big fan of the stripes and thrilled to see that I wasn't the only one ( @espyetta ) about the make a plaid joke!
January 19th, 2014
@archaeofrog @espyetta the original concept had the strikes on me on the left side and leopard spots on the reflection - as in breaking out in spots... but the displacement map was being such a pain in the a$$ i decided to simplify

i don't think i have anything that is plaid... but the checkerboard concept someone mentioned above is appealing ;p
January 19th, 2014
@archaeofrog @northy Katie! ha! Great minds think alike. I did not see your plaid comment. Or was it after mine? I am too tired to read all the comments to see. And Northy...the shot is great! And when you are burning in shadow, I always worry it is too much...so go light, maybe? It is a great shot...you are just too much a perfectionist!
January 20th, 2014
Too cool! :D
January 20th, 2014
I like the 6 word story, give yourself more credit. Very clever, and a great way to get in both challenges.
January 21st, 2014
I like how the stripes highlight your eyes. Cool.
January 21st, 2014
Amazing - I gotta learn PS - but I'll still never have your creativity!
