Coal Drop - Shildon by oldjosh

Coal Drop - Shildon

Shildon was the center of the Stockton Darlington Railway with the Soho works and many wagon ways bringing coal from the surrounding mines. The wagons were were taken up the ramp and the coal tipped through shoots into the waiting trains then transported to Stockton.
In the distance is the Signal box of the present railway
Interesting photo and commentary. Love everything about railway history, and this is very close to where it all began.
