Custom House built in 1818 on what was then Known as Steamboat Quay. On a Daily basis steamers departed from the pier for Liverpool, Bristol. Inversess, Belfast, Dublin, Cork and Clyde ports including Glasgow, Dumbarton and Helensbrugh. There were also regular trips to the Islands of Mull Sky and Islay. The steamers carried both goods and passengers.
Today the Balmoral called taking passengers on a trip along the Clyde. Hattie who I am visiting and I trip on her from Tower Pier to Rye Harbour when we both lived in London. The last time I saw her was in Bristol, her home port, in a sorry state waiting for repairs so I was pleased to see her up and running again.
