Bristol Time by oldjosh

Bristol Time

Before 1880 British cities had there own local time reckoned by the sun. Because Bristol lies 2 degrees and 36 minutes west of Greenwich Meridian the sun reaches its noon peak 11 minutes later. In June 1841 with the opening of the railway which ran according to London time; Bristol Corporation arranged for the corn exchange clock to show Bristol & Greenwich time so Bristolians would not miss their trains
