The bear and ragged staff is an heraldic emblem of the Earldom of Warwick. Robert Dudley, the 1st Earl of Leicester and owner of Warwick Castle in the 1500s and a favourite suitor of Queen Elizabeth l used the bear and ragged staff on their coat of arms
