I went down to one of my favorite piers tonight to try some slow shutter action. I shot this at 30sec as the waves covered my shoes! I wasn't going to move until that 30 seconds were up! :o) Its amazing how light this looks! I took the shot well after sunset!
Thank you all for taking the time to stop by and comment! I am so grateful!
I hope all you fathers out there have a great Fathers Day weekend!
Sorry guys! I miss spoke! I just checked the exif info and this was shot at 3.2 sec. That explains the steady hand! :) I'll have to post one of the 30 sec shots soon!
The light at the end of the... pier. Please tell me you used a tripod for this one. Any filters or that it was taken at last light, none were necessary? Love it!
I just re-read your blurb." I wasn't going to move until that 30 seconds were up!" Hand held?? Really?? If that was me, this would look like a big earthquake was going through.
Okay... I along with the others am amazed if this is a handheld 30 sec image! You have a steady hand! We're going to have to start calling you Mr. T (short for tripod) Fav :)
@maggiemae Thank you, Maggiemae! Apparently it was 3.2 sec! Oops! :) @bobfoto Thank you, Jason! @cvanheel Thank you, Cade! :) @lize Thank you so much, Elizabeth! @claudilientje Tennis shoes! :) @emjay8 Thank you, Mel! :) @ozziehoffy only for 3 sec tho! My mistake! :) @rmkgreene Thanks, Ruth! Its fun! I'm looking forward to your shots! :) @jdonnelly Thank you so much, Joseph! @sheliwithani I was propping my camera up on a pole but I didn't want my camera to fall in the water! Wet tennis shoes was a small sacrifice! :) @simon0128 Thank you very much, Simon! :) @aspada Lol! Thanks, Amy! I actually used a pole to prop it on but if I let go it definitely would have washed away to sea! :) @nikkic You are too kind, Nikki! :) Thank you so much! I wish I could say that is true! :) @elke Thank you so much, Elke! :) @bearnecessities No, that's just a rumor going around! ;o) I found a pole and shoved it in the sand and used that. I laughed when I saw the water coming and knew I wasn't going to move! @mcdermgl Thank you very much, Mcdermgl! @monika64 I think I must have gotten my shots mixed up! I started at sunset and kept adding seconds as it got darker ending with 30 sec! This must have been just after sunset, judging by the exif! @annbo Thank you soooo much, Ann! @jenniferruge Thank you very much, Jennifer! :) @veg66 Thank you so much, Joanne! :) @cheyrebecca What! Are you in town? We should have gotten all the San Diego 365ers together for a meet up! :) This is the pier in La Jolla just in front of Scrips aquarium. The pier in Ocean Beach is built the same way but I would recommend that one! ;) @trude Lol! Thank you so much, Trude! :)
Wow Jerry! This is amazing!
This was with 3.2 seconds? I wonder what would happen with the 30 seconds?
I tried a daytime slow shutter speed and it was too bright. What do you usually do to compensate for that during a day time shot? Just learned about the 30 second night time shot with the last challenge.
OMG JERRY!! im sure the first 73 comments said it all!! i am just in awe of the capture and your wonderful processing ..i would love one sighned and framed...seriously!! FAV!
@orangecrush Thanks Jerry!!! We're at Mission Beach today, walked down the rocks to that little hut you took a pic of last year. It took forever, and was not easy!!! Lol!!!
@cheyrebecca Lol! I thought i was going to break my leg and drop my camera on that hike! I cant wait to see your pics! You've got to check out the La Jolla tide pools for some great rock/ocean shots or my favorite beach photo spot is Coronado right in front of the Hotel Del Coronado!
@myhrhelper There are Nd filters that help in the day time! I have never had much luck in the day. Here the sun sets over the ocean so it makes it very dificult when the sun is above you or right in your face! I get great results on an overcast day or right after sunset. Some cases I don't even use a filter, but that would be a 3 sec shot or less!
@tinamalik Thank you so much for all of your comments, Tina! It was fun looking back on all of those shots! I'm actually into my second year here so you can't get rid of me that fast! ;o) Thank you again for taking the time to stop by! :)
I sometimes forget how important it is to look around at others photography. Usually due to lack of time. Your work is inspiring. I need to get back to the artistic side of photography. This shot is amazing.
Love it.
A Fav.
(your exif says 3.2 seconds but that cant be correct at night)
