This is my 34 year old friend, a green wing macaw who has a voice loud enough to peel paint from the walls and can crack a brazil nut in the sane beak he will delicatly groom my eyelashes with. He talks and dances and makes a huge mess, daily. Not a pet for the short term or anyone who loves peace and order
Beautiful pet! I had an African Grey parrot for a few years...until she took flight and was never seen again...she never said a word but did ever other sound she heard..microwave, doorbell, toilet flushing and telephone! LOL
Wow, his colors are amazing and his beak is much larger than I would expect. I've not really spent much time close to this type of bird -- only seen them from a distance. Such a gorgeous shot.
Is he yours, Dixie?!! He's gorgeous . . what beautiful colors. Love the angle of this. Beautiful colors and lighting. I had to laugh at " . . peel the paint from the walls!" LOL Does he talk? Love these birds and enjoy their antics. I think that they're very intelligent. :)
@karenann yes, he's been mine for 19 years - At one time i owned, or was owned by 12 parrots, three of them were macaws and one was a miniature macaw, a cockatoo, lorys, and cockatiels and one Amazon. My aunt said it was displaced maternal instinct and I didn't believe her, but after I had two babies, I began to see the similarities, the birds are like forever having a toddler, one you'll have to pass on in a will.
Gorgeous bird Dixie - great age. They live for a very long time. I can relate to the bit about the beak being both strong and delicate. Ours are the same. Lovely.
Well, he does seem quite pleased with himself- and sounds as if he should be. We once took care of some big birds for a friend while they were away and my boys were fascinated with them. Sadly, we couldn't have them where we were renting at the time. Nice shot.

I've always wanted a blue macaw!
