Another selfless selfie Thursday finds me remembering that my grandmother made this quilt and just as surely made me a book lover, reader, writer. Each of these were important to me and the loved ones in my life, One Child about teaching Special Ed., and the first book I knew of that told me how it really would be, Trixie Belden, my best friend in Jr. High and still par of the inner me. The Narnia Books, part of my 4th grade year and of me ever after, and Look out for Pirates, read to my brothers and I by our Dad, and loved by my students and my boys until I had to tear it apart, laminate it page by page, and put it back together, Laura Ingalls needs no introduction, and the second Novel I wrote is here too.
yes, i can see you in all the things in this photo. in the short time that i've come to "know" you, i know your sentimental about things that form part of your life. you had a wonderful upbringing and that's how you brought up your own children. wonderful shot, dixie.
@sparkleplenty1 Even my boys loved the adventures of Trixie and The bobwhites of the glen. Pretty sure your bookstore won't have my books but they shouldn't have any problem ordering them. If they can't. I could send you a copy.
This is a fantastic collection to share with us about your love of reading. I have to share with you that I LOVE Laura Ingalls Wilder! She is also in my collection... I also grew up reading Trixie Belden, which I borrowed from an older cousin who had the entire collection. I loved her books much better than Nancy Drew. Trixie was just more real to me. Thank you for sharing this and bringing back these memories!
@pandorasecho - *i know you're sentimental* - sorry for that little slip up; it was late when i made my comments (i know, excuses, excuses!).
"Sentimental or at least a bit mental. I do tend to surround myself with layers of memories even as I live the present."
that's good, even the mental part hahaha! my mother always told us that a person who cannot look back at the past is ungrateful and shouldn't be trusted.
wonderful, wonderful, wonderful shot, Dixie. you have a house full of treasures! I, too, have a love a reading that began when i was a child. beautiful quilt.
First of all I love your grandmother's quilt!! Secondly I loved the Laura Ingalls books too!! Passed them on to my niece and the love continued! I thoroughly enjoyed reading your first book before I passed it on to Olivia and could see these influences- especially Narnia- in your writing. Living with layers is the best way to live- at least that's what I think! But then I live with them too! Nice shot Dixie!!
Not only a reader but also a novelist...wow, glad to have met you! Can you tell me which is yr 2nd novel? I only know C S Lewis.....sorry, only read Enid Blyton as a kid.
