There was a time when I truly hated this building. I mean REALLY hated it. I watched it being built, slowly taking shape and altering the city scape.
After it was finished I continued to mourn the loss of all that was decent and beautiful in the world. Ok, I was a bit dramatic, but I REALLY hated this big, twisted tin can.
I love old architecture and this modern monstrosity insulted my senses.
But obviously it wasn't going anywhere anytime soon, and in fact it would far outlive me.
Gradually, it began to look less like an eyesore and more like an intriguing addition to the city.
Now, it never ceases to amaze me with the neverending variety of surfaces and shapes it reveals, depending on where you're gazing from. I could probably post a picture every day for a month, and every one would be unique.
This is the north side, so the lighting doesn't do it justice. I'll probably shoot it again from the east side at some point.
I liked the monochrome result, with the pale gray sky we had today.
I still haven't seen it yet, but after looking at your picture, I should make a point of visiting it. It does certainly have interesting lines and shapes, really grabs your attention far more than the typical high-rise box.
So after the shot you posted yesterday I have to say that although it is entirely different it also has a simple type of ornateness to it too! great shot!
It its a very cool shot! I know the feeling of your description.... I live in Toronto and some huge metal structure will go up that looks like it belongs on another planet.... but slowly I like the charachter it adds to the city.... This is an awesome looking structure :) Lovley shot!
Great shot. We have an art gallery with a very similar design to it. I had the very same feelings as it was going up but now too I really like it. You can check it out I posted a shot of it on Oct 18,2012. Interestingly enough it was designed by some people from Los Angeles

Yes, I commented on your photo last month. I looked up the Art Gallery of Alberta, and it was designed by Robert Stout. It does have a very similar look to Disney Hall, but different designers.
Neat shot, I like the monochrome effect and all the different surfaces. Funny how these things grow on you, isn't it? I feel the same way about architecture as you do, I love the old stuff, and often feel that new things just don't belong, it all just changes too fast. Once I can get past that though, it's easier to appreciate the new things for their own individual merits, instead of being mad that they're not the old things. Some new buildings, such as this, are really neat! There are still some new buildings that suck though, for many reasons, let's be honest, lol! :)
I love this and I love your story about how you were slowly won over. It's a stunning piece of architecture and I'm sure I'd love to just sit and look at it if it were in my town. I'm glad you changed your mind about it.

@fueast
Yes, it's absolutely Gehry.
