I was at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln yesterday to remember one of my wife's relatives killed before she was born,
we have had this small stone carved to remember Jack and his colleagues killed when their Manchester Bomber L7318 EM-K crashed in flames returning to RAF Waddington just 3 miles from the runway on 15th September 1941.
The stone forms part of the Ribbon of Remembrance that connects the Chadwick Centre to the Memorial Spire framing the Memorial Avenue.
@Weezilou Thank you so much Louise, we knew very little about how and why Jack was killed until my wife started researching her family tree, her mum was very close growing up with Jack and said he was a lovely boy and young man, we would have be proud of him if he was our son:)
@onewing Thank you Babs after finding out about Jack and the tragic events leading to his and his colleagues death we wanted to leave our little tribute to them all:)
@stray_shooter Thanks Ron for your lovely comment, the more you find out about long lost relatives the closer you feel, we just had to record our tribute to Jack, on my side of the family we lost no one close in WWII my father survived Dunkirk, DDay landings, and the fight through France, Holland and on into Germany, we were far more lucky than most:)
@gilbertwood Thank you so much for your comment Denise the names of far to many of your fellow countrymen are etched on the walls of remembrance here at the International Bomber Command Centre:)
