After the Norman Conquest in 1066, the pound was divided into twenty shillings or 240 pennies. It remained so until decimalization on 15 February 1971, when the pound was divided up, one hundred pennies to the pound
Australia went through decimalising (is that a word?) its currency accompanied by . . . .
In come the dollars,
In come the cents,
To replace the pounds,
The shillings and the pence,
Be prepared folks,
When the coins begin to mix,
On the 14th of February 1966.
Aussies of my generation have that jingle permanently imprinted in their brain
