The Windermere Ferry has been operating for more than 500 years. The original craft were rowed across the lake, later ferries were steam driven and the most recent ones have had diesel engines. The current ferry ‘Mallard’ is the largest so far; a modern craft which carries up to 18 cars and over 100 passengers.
A nice shot, Peter! We have ferries here in Toronto to carry passengers, but no cars, to the nearby Toronto Islands. Our ferries currently have diesel engines, but there is a plan to switch over to electric. It's a work in progress.
@365projectorgheatherb Thank you Heather for your interesting comment, at least one of the Lakeland passenger cruiser has a diesel engine to generate power for the electrically driven main engine it’s only four years old:)
