Some of these stones at Avebury have been standing for around 6,000 years.
"Lean on me" -comes to mind !! I love and am intrigued by these big stones -- how they got there , why upright , their meaning or purpose !! Super shot Hazel !

@beryl

Shucks - would have made a good title!!!

I can't comprehend how these amazing stones have survived around 6,000 years of weathering, makes our meagre existence, time wise, seem fleeting doesn't it & I like Beryl, ask, why upright ? Were they flung from outer space ?

P.S Hazel, you have great dress sense, comfortable, casual & stylish...looking good !
April 15th, 2014
Fascinating!
April 15th, 2014
Nice shot. Don't lean on it too hard, if you knock it over you will be in trouble. Fascinating stone circles.
April 15th, 2014
I love this shot. You look marvelous!
April 15th, 2014
Great photo....love the setting and your red boots
April 15th, 2014
The Druids must have had a lot of spare time on their hands. Interesting scene.

6000 years! Imagine touching something with 6000 year old fingerprints on it ...
April 15th, 2014
nice shot of you
April 15th, 2014
Wow, 6000 years, that almost makes them a local :-)
I bet there are some interesting stories to go with these artefacts.
April 15th, 2014
what a cool shot and so nice to see your smiling face :)
April 15th, 2014
A wonderful Selfie Hazel, Fab shot.
April 15th, 2014
I'm so glad you gave us an idea of how big they are. Well done.

@kbroges

Thank you kindly! I always like mainly to be comfortable in my clothes - can't stand high heels, stuff that scratches or anything!!!
April 15th, 2014
@pennystot

I got those boots at a shop called 'Hotter' - I always thought of it as an old ladies' shop (go figure!) before but found the stuff in there to be stylish as well as comfortable! And would you believe that when I bought them they had a 3 for 2 offer on so I got a pair of shoes for free!!!!!
April 15th, 2014
Wow.
April 15th, 2014
Slightly afraid that big old rock is going to topple and take you with it!
April 15th, 2014
First I love your boots too & I now read that they are ..Hotter, a great name in comfortable but stylish footwear.
Interesting old stones...what a history there. I do think the back ones look rather like a row of elephants walking behind you!
April 15th, 2014
Fantastic place to visit and to stand/lean amongst the stones. I love your hotter boots. I have a few pairs of hotter so comfortable and some good offers too.
April 15th, 2014
I bet that stone itself is much, much older.
Great idea to be in the pic. to show the size. Nice capture of this great place
April 15th, 2014
great shot
April 15th, 2014
Fantastic rocks! They must be fenced with a fence, for that through the 6,000 years, someone has not damaged.
April 15th, 2014
@baalst

No fences, Alex and there are similar stones/monuments in several fields - in one there is a whole circle of them - but nobody really knows their purpose!
April 15th, 2014
That's amazing - 6000 years! And you don't look a day over 35...
April 15th, 2014
Awesome rocks
April 15th, 2014
Is this something like Stonehenge?
April 16th, 2014
Wow! Great find and shot!
April 16th, 2014
Wow, this is really cool. It sure give us the perspective of just how bit the stones are.
April 16th, 2014
I would love to see this. Posing with the stone gives it scale, and you look great besides.
April 16th, 2014
Wow! Great subject... I would really enjoy seeing such ancient things in person. Thanks for standing next to it... gives us perspective.
April 16th, 2014
I've passed Stonehenge many times, but you've made me want to stop at Avebury to get up close to the stones
April 16th, 2014
@judithg

Judith, that's the nicest comment anybody has ever made to me on 365!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 16th, 2014
Good job stopping the stone from falling over :-)
April 16th, 2014
@skipt07

This is older. It's thought that Stonehenge was for sun worship but it seems very unclear what was the purpose of Avebury. I guess Stonehenge has a more definite form and is easily recognisable but you can't get near the stones which you can do here - as you can see!
April 16th, 2014
Nicely held up
April 16th, 2014
Great shot of you leaning against a 6,000 year old rock.
April 20th, 2014
A magnificent monument. I once spent the night n the back of my car to be up early to watch the sunrise. Fortunately the car was a large estate car with enough room to make a comfy bed!
