The majority of the buildings at the Bishop's Palace were constructed from flint, but these guests' lodgings, built at a later date, show a mix of materials.
I just liked the pattern and tried to photograph a representative sample of it.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Well spotted. Yes how interesting how different materials have been used over the years. Maybe when repairs were completed they just used what was to hand
Interesting, obviously the guests lodgings weren't as important as the Bishop's Palace in upkeep or repair, either that or as suggested materials were in short supply, either way I like this abstract appearance of works completed.
Fascinating. We can assume that as older buildings fell out of use, they were dismantled and the materials reused, so there is no telling how old some of these blocks are, or how they were originally used. There are even tool marks on the blocks that might have been made a thousand years ago!
What a great idea of your neighbours. I also love brick and flint houses - which I've seen mostly in Norfolk.
