A view from the back garden at Hinton Ampner over the Hampshire countryside.
It was a boost this morning (another grey and dismal day) to see two yesterday's posts in the walled garden at Hinton, a flower and my portrait of Nick the volunteer gardener, both on PP. Thanks everyone and for all your support as ever.
To those of you thinking I am brave in asking for portraits from strangers, and even, sometimes, feeling concerned for my safety, I read yesterday in The times the obituary of David Steen, portrait photographer to celebrities. It ended with a quote from him "If you ask people nicely, they'll usually oblige." And this has been my personal experience exactly.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Excellent in b&w, you have illustrated the grey day perfectly.
I agree if you ask people nicely they usually oblige. I have never had anyone say 'no' when I have asked them if I can take their photo. I think also you and I are of the right age and the right sex to be able to get away with it Hazel.

Babs - I'm still mulling over your last sentence!!! (Not threatening maybe?!!!)

I personally am too shy to ask strangers to take a picture of them :)
Nitrogene, I almost hesitate to say this but when you become as ancient as me, you will no longer be shy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
