It was a sunny afternoon, too good to stay indoors. We drove to Swanwick near the boatyard and parked the car.
Along the path by the river, we found donkeys at a field gate and a family feeding them carrots. I focused on one donkey and was lucky to be ready for this shot. Just after I captured the shot, one little girl began to cry bitterly, saying that her daddy had given her carrot, which she was just going to eat, to one of the donkeys.
Her mum offered a snack bar as soon as they had washed their hands and said that donkeys could not go to the shop to buy carrots (i.e. a good thing to feed them!). The child would not be placated.
I had nothing to give anyone, only my photos to take.
n.b. I also post in Flickr and this photo was taken in response to a group's challenge of 'movement' - I wanted to share it here too but have to acknowledge that on the Flickr site.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
A portrait with a difference this time Hazel, lovely composition, light and fine detail, looks like the donkey has his eye firmly fixed on the photographer and not the carrot:)
Thank you. Any merit in this shot is pure luck, except that I did try hard to get everything in the frame!
We have a donkey sanctuary near to us and the donkeys there are so well looked after.
Such a nice comment, David, thank you.
Well it's good, Phil, to bring back happy memories but perhaps you would rather not remember getting bitten!!
