I went out to find out what the deafening noise was and looked up to see an enormous helicopter with a light scanning the hillside behind us. Other lights indicated the presence of a search and rescue team. The helicopter circled around several times and lowered a stretcher. I sometimes walk that hill and there is an old Napoleonic fortress and dry moat up there and wonder if someone fell into it. We are lucky to have people who will turn out at all hours to help those in distress. In the process of looking up, I caught these leaves lit up from the house lights.
