Arrived back home today and dove head first into dealing with work and family issues (the real reason we go on vacation in the first place is to get away from all that!). So, now there’s no time for photos. Therefore, I’m going to keep posting my favorite Pearl Harbor shots for a couple more days until things settle down.
For this shot, I was standing, just under the big guns on the main deck of the battleship USS Missouri. The ship is significant because on September 2, 1945, representatives of the Allied and Axis powers met in a solemn ceremony. aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. Following General Douglas MacArthur’s speech, representatives of the Empire of Japan were directed to step forward and sign the two copies of the Instrument of Surrender. General MacArthur signed on behalf of all the Allied powers and concluded the ceremony by saying: “Let us pray that peace be now restored to the world, and that God will preserve it always. These proceeding are closed!” With those words, World War II ended.
Very impressive shot from the POV you used!! I liked your commentary too. And had to laugh as I was thinking I could finish up this month with NYC and zoo shots since there's now a lot of work ahead!
