The big red derrick is called the Norseman, used to dredge up sludge from the bottom of the marina. The work is in preparation for rebuilding about 500 boat slips where you now see water in this photo. The rickety wooden docks are more than 50 years old, many with with cracks and huge holes. Sometimes when I go down to our boat slip, I worry that I might step right through and land with a splash.
Our boat, which is docked with the masses of boats on the right side of the photo, is scheduled to be relocated later this year so docks in our section can also be replaced with new concrete slips. That whole process may take another 1 and 1/2 years to complete. In the meantime, we're taking our boat out as much as possible because once it moves to its temporary spot, it might be a lot less convenient to get to. It could end up miles away. We'll have to wait and see.
Lovely crisp lines and colours. Thank you very much for your kind comments - we had a wonderful time and still have not quite come down to earth - still dreaming elephants and giraffes.
