Green with envy

On a walk with friends near San Diego over the weekend, I spotted this healthy green lawn and took this shot to memorialize what is rapidly going away in Southern California. The drought is forcing everyone to conserve on the little water we do have and many are replacing their lawns with drought tolerant plants and rocks. The current refrain is "Brown is the new green."
I've heard people are moving to artificial turf if they want the green look -- at least in Phoenix that's a new approach.

@taffy That's happening here as well. When it's done well, with other surrounding plants, it's quite attractive. Of course, it doesn't feel like grass.

I am not going to miss lawns at all...they are so wrong for this climate, and at this point this would be a poster for "lawn shaming"! I really love drought tolerant yards, especially when they are done well, and there are also so many native plants or ones from similar climates that look so good, along with herbs, and even trees that don't demand too much water. The lawns that are not being watered like this one are looking truly sad right now...
