Foxton Locks leicestershire an inclined plane built in 1900 as a more efficient way of getting barges to the top of the locks. It was not a success and remained in operation for only ten years. It was dismantled in 1926.
How interesting! You should come to America and visit the C & O (Chesapeake and Ohio) Canal. No longer a working canal, there is still much to see and learn. I grew up near parts of it and have spent a lot of time (mainly as a teen) frolicking along its tow path :) As a kid we even ice skated on it when it froze. Lots of info on the internet.
@marylandgirl58 Thanks I had a quick Google it looks an interesting place. Foxton locks is part of the grand union canal in the UK it's still in use but only for leisure craft.
