lapwing and oystercatchers by roachling

lapwing and oystercatchers

I spent a couple of hours birdwatching this afternoon and saw a lot of different birds. As well as lapwings and oystercatchers there were teal, wigeon, snipe, swans, a heron, a cormorant, tufted ducks, mallards, coots, chaffinches, greenfinches, willow tits, reed buntings, goldfinches, a goldcrest and probably loads more I didn't spot. I didn't get many photos, oh how I long for a really big lens!
Empty your piggy bank and get a Sigma 500mm Louise!! Where was this? Lots of Lapwings, one of my favourite birds. Nicely done.

What a great lot of birds to have seen, lucky you. Nice capture here.

You should have brought your Nikon P500... that would have been perfect for this! It is a great shot Louise and I would have loved to be there to see all those birds!

I did have my p500 as well and took a very similar photo with it. At full zoom on that though, it was about the same as full zoom with the canon. The above photo was 250mm and the p500 at full is 36x optical zoom - I'm not sure how the 36x relates to mm but it appears very similar to 250mm.

Sorry Helge, ignore my previous comment - I'm tired today and clearly not thinking - just realised the two images look similar because I cropped the one I uploaded to the size above to 'zoom in' on the birds a bit - I guess that's why it now looks similar to the non cropped, p500 photo!

I wish I had a longer zoom lens as well! Same as yours, mine goes to 250. Nice shot anyway :)

sounds like a wonderful outing. This one is nice, although I understand the desire.
